During its lifetime, a Wind Turbine is subjected to extraordinary stresses and loads, apart from varied ambient conditions. All of these should carefully be considered during the design phase, to develop a reliable Wind Turbine.

Suzlon MegaPower Series is the culmination of 30 years of operational experience of running Wind Turbines worldwide. Innovation, extensive operational experience and feedback from operating wind parks have helped our R&D centers to design and develop extremely reliable and technologically superior Wind Turbine Generators.

INCREASED EFFICIENCY

Although wind is freely available, viability of the investment in a wind power project depends on the efficiency of the Wind Turbine. Therefore, reduction of energy losses in the system of Suzlon MegaPower Series was the first priority.

A direct grid-connected high speed generator, in combination with multiple-stage combined-spur/planetary gearbox of Suzlon MegaPower Series, achieves higher efficiency and co-efficient of power (Cp) values than a low-speed generator connected to the electrical grid via AC-DC-AC-inverter systems. It delivers harmonics-free and grid-friendly pure power.

 

STRESS & LOAD REDUCTION

A Wind Turbine Generator is subjected to combination of static, dynamic and peak load induced stresses.

Static stresses in Suzlon MegaPower Series are taken care of by a well-balanced weight distribution design.

Wind-induced dynamic radial loads are picked up by the separate main shaft bearing which is integrated into the gearbox housing.

Finally, peak loads are compensated by a torque-adjustable fluid coupling which also acts as an excellent vibration separation and shock-dampening device.

 

AMBIENT PROTECTION

In addition to the mechanical stresses, a Wind Turbine is also subjected to thermal stresses, moisture, salinity, dusty environments, snow, lightning strikes and extreme wind conditions.

The components are hermetically sheltered. The advanced over-voltage and lightning protection system is in compliance with the International Standards.

The entire series is designed according to the Germanischer Lloyd (GL) design standards.
